# Schema: Clarke County veterans roll

Dataset `clarke-veterans-roll`, version 1.0.0, published 2026-10-12. One row per record; the CSV and the "Records" sheet of the XLSX carry the same columns in the same order.

| Column | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `person_id` | string | Stable Our Clarke identifier for the person on the roll. Does not change between versions. |
| `name` | string | The name as the roll shows it. |
| `name_variants` | string | Other spellings and forms of the name found in the sources, separated by semicolons. |
| `war` | string | The war the roll lists the person under: Colonial, Revolution, 1812, Mexican, Civil War, Spanish-American, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Other or "not stated". |
| `wars_all` | string | Every war the sources place the person in, separated by semicolons. |
| `war_basis` | string | What the war rests on, in the words of the record behind it. |
| `branch_unit` | string | Branch, unit, rank or company as the sources give it. |
| `birth_year` | string | Birth year where a source states it; sometimes a date. Empty when no source gives one, and always empty for a veteran who may be living. |
| `death_date_or_year` | string | Death date or year where a source states it. Empty is not a statement that the person is living. |
| `death_as_stated` | string | The death, wound or casualty as the source words it, where one does. |
| `burial` | string | Burial place where a source gives one. |
| `clarke_basis` | string | Why the person belongs on a Clarke County roll: the home, birth, death, burial or Clarke unit a source states. |
| `deceased_basis` | string | Why the person is taken to be deceased: a record of death, or the roll's rule for wars that ended in 1919 or earlier and for people born before 1916. Empty or "living or not known" for a veteran who may be living. |
| `source_families` | string | The kinds of source behind the row, as the codes the /veterans/ page uses, separated by commas. |
| `sources_described` | string | The same source kinds in words, separated by semicolons. |
| `citations` | string | The sources for the row as citations: title, date, page and what the source says, as recorded when each source was read. Separate passages are joined with a vertical bar. |
| `green_hill_register_id` | string | The row of the Green Hill Cemetery dataset (/data/#green-hill-cemetery) for this burial, where one row is certain. |
| `page_url` | url | The person's own page on Our Clarke, where there is one. |

An empty cell means the value is not recorded in the source, or could not be read from it. It never means zero.
