## Coverage

- In: All 251 released recipe cards of this dataset's two sources: 245 from the White Post Village Cook Book (1986) and 6 contributed to Our Clarke by Clarke cooks, each with its source page, yield, ingredients, directions, notes, rights basis and estimated macros.
- Not in: No card of either source is left out. The Our Clarke recipes page also carries 95 cards this dataset does not: 70 from Clarke County Cooks, and 25 read from other publishers' web pages. Each of those sources keeps its own credit and rights, which Our Clarke's compilation license does not cover. 15 values on 15 cards are withheld in place (14 scan_debris, 1 headnote) and marked in the state columns with a note. Macros are estimates, and 210 cards carry no totals (154 partial, 56 withheld) with the reason in macros_json. Pages 70 and 71 of the book are missing from the scan.
- Effective date: 1986 for the book; contributed recipes as their cooks sent them in

Attribution: Credit the White Post Village Cook Book (1986) or the contributing cook, named in contributed_by, whenever a recipe is reused, in addition to the Our Clarke citation. Each recipe keeps its own rights basis, stated in license_note: the book is in copyright, and Our Clarke publishes its recipes as uncopyrightable lists of ingredients and simple directions (17 USC 102(b); Copyright Office Circular 33; Publications International v. Meredith, 7th Cir. 1996). The dataset license covers Our Clarke's compilation: its columns, states, notes and estimates.

## Held fields

- ingredients_raw: The ingredient lines as the scan read them. ingredients_json carries the same lines split into quantity and item, with the scan's garbled lines already withheld; the raw text would put them back.
- category and category_as_attested: The recipe page's filter grouping and the book's chapter name. They sort the page; they are not facts about a recipe a download reader needs, and the chapter is on the book page cited.
- temperature and time: Read by rule from the directions. directions_text carries the printed words, so a second, machine-read copy would present a reading as a separate fact.
- community: The one community-context line a contributing cook gave. It describes the cook, not the recipe, and stays on the recipe card where the cook agreed to show it.
- period_language: A flag on one card whose printed wording is of its period. The card on the recipe page carries the reader note; the wording itself ships as printed.
- sort_name, book_slug and book_year: Page mechanics. The year is in source_book_citation.

## Row filters

Every row passed the download boundary's two filters before it was written: rows about a person who may be living are excluded, and rows whose state is unresolved (verify, lead, ambiguous and similar) are excluded. This publication excluded 0 rows as possibly living and 0 as unresolved at that boundary.

## Reading the data

A state column is never empty. present means the value ships; not_printed means the source has none; withheld_<reason> means Our Clarke has the value but does not publish it, for the reason named, and notes says why in words. An empty value with a present state does not occur.

Directions and ingredient lines are as printed, including the book's own spellings and the scan's small warts that pass the withhold rules. Where our scan misread the page, the card was corrected by hand against the page text, never added to, and notes says so.

macros_json is an estimate from a declared ingredient mapping, not a lab or label value. Per-serving figures appear only where the book prints a single number of servings or pieces.

The CC BY 4.0 license below applies to Our Clarke's compilation. It does not license the recipes: each keeps the basis in its license_note, and the book remains in copyright.
