County funding, kept separate

This section is about the fire companies only — John H. Enders Fire Company & Rescue Squad, Boyce Volunteer Fire Company, Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. It has nothing to do with the other organizations on this page. Every county figure here is money proposed or appropriated for the county's 2027 fiscal year. None of it is a record of money actually spent, and none of it belongs beside what a company reported on its own return: the two count different things.

FY2027 budget development. The Finance Committee reviewed options for implementing the Fire Rescue Advisory Group's recommended staffing plan: five new full-time county employees PLUS AN ANNUAL PAYMENT TO BOYCE FIRE COMPANY OF $332,000, or twelve new county employees if the county provided staffing at Boyce directly.

Basis: proposed. Fiscal year: county FY2027 (1 July 2026 - 30 June 2027). A figure under deliberation. It has not been adopted and may never be spent.

A citizen representing the Boyce Volunteer Fire Company spoke at the 13 April 2026 public hearing in favour of continuing the company's current model rather than staffing that station with full-time county personnel. The Board then directed staff to prepare a second budget version based on applying for SAFER grant funding for five new firefighter positions instead of the twelve in the placeholder.

Basis: public hearing record. Fiscal year: county FY2027 (1 July 2026 - 30 June 2027). An account of what was said at a public hearing. Not a dollar figure and not a county position.

The Board added a $360,000 revenue and expenditure appropriation for a SAFER grant (17 March 2026). The Finance Committee added $52,800 in capital for Fire-Rescue equipment contingent on the county hiring twelve new staff with that grant, funded the Blue Ridge Fire Company's capital request, and declined a new Chief vehicle, saving $25,000.

Basis: appropriated. Fiscal year: county FY2027 (1 July 2026 - 30 June 2027). Authority to spend, adopted by the Board. Authority is not expenditure; the amount actually spent may differ or be zero.

What these figures do not show

These are the amounts each organization reported on its own annual return. They are not the total cost of the service it provides: volunteer time, staff employed by someone else, mutual aid and equipment bought by others sit outside them. Nothing here scores or orders the organizations.

Coverage is uneven. Of undefined organization-years, 16 are read from the filed return, 33 come from a published summary of the IRS data that has not been checked against the return, 0 exist only as a scanned PDF that has not been read, and 2 have no return located. A year read from a return and a year read from a summary are different kinds of evidence.

The categories shown are the ones this comparison holds, not every line on a return. A missing figure is named in words and breaks the chart line; a reported zero is shown as $0 with the evidence behind it.
