Books and sources

Our Clarke has scanned 35 books and read them page by page for its research.

What this list is

This is not a bibliography of Clarke County. It lists only the books this project has scanned and read directly from the page, and it grows as more are scanned. Each card gives what the book says about itself, how much of it our scan captured, and what this site publishes from it.

How the books are used

Where facts from a book are published as records, or the book is cited as a source in the evidence, its card links there. Where a card links to neither, nothing from that book’s text is published on this site. The copyright line on each card is the one the book prints.

Read online (PDF) · Download (~19.8 MB). Scan provided by Michael Oak from his personal collection. Digitized by the Internet Archive from a copy held by an unspecified library (identifier historyofclarkec00gold); public domain. At least three digital copies of this scan exist in the owner's collection: the private original (377 PDF pages) and a second, differently re-encoded 377-page copy of the same 2008 Internet Archive scan, plus a distinct 370-page copy on a separate disc, cataloged elsewhere on this site as source S39. The 7-page difference between the 370- and 377-page copies is unexplained; nothing here should be read as claiming a single, uncontested copy of this book exists. The 376-page copy hosted here removes the private original's final page, a modern reseller page (a "The Classic Archives" / ADVPlans eBay thank-you page) appended after the original 1914 printing and not part of it; every retained page keeps its original page number.

A separately cataloged 76-page copy of this book also exists in the project's records; the private original of this scan (82 pages) is a different copy or re-scan, and the page-count difference has not been resolved. The 81-page copy hosted here removes the private original's final page, a modern reseller page (a "The Classic Archives" / ADVPlans eBay thank-you page) appended after the original 1906 printing and not part of it; every retained page keeps its original page number.

A second, differently digitized Internet Archive copy of the same 3rd-edition printing exists under a different identifier (historyofvalleyo00inkerc); this record releases only the copy actually held and hashed below.
