Column definitions are in schema.md. Machine-readable metadata is in datapackage.json. Every file in this directory, with its size and SHA-256, is listed in manifest.json.

Held fields

  • source_row: The row position inside a page of the extraction. It is a working coordinate, not a fact about the burial, and it would change if the page were re-read.
  • month and day of each date: Only the printed date text and the year read from it are published. The month and day are in the printed text; publishing a machine reading of them as separate values would present it as a second, cleaner fact.

Row filters

Every row passed the download boundary's two filters before it was written: rows about a person who may be living are excluded, and rows whose state is unresolved (verify, lead, ambiguous and similar) are excluded. This publication excluded 0 rows as possibly living and 0 as unresolved at that boundary.

Reading the data

Dates are printed as the compilers wrote them. A year is given only where the printed date could be read; the *_date_state columns say which dates were partial, unreadable or unparsed, and the flags column names contradictions (a death before a birth, for example) without correcting them.

A blank death date is not a death. death_recorded is "no" when the compilation records none.

Two records sharing a surname or a lot are not thereby related. The only relationship text is the compilers' own note, reproduced verbatim.
